Two curved ornaments at the top of its neck frill gave it a striking profile. Its head carried horns above the eyes and two large curved projections high on the frill. Their shape inspired a name linked to a curved sword; the body is reconstructed as that of a sturdy, four-legged plant eater.
Three stages. One companion.

Beyond the game
The real Machairoceratops
It is known from a partial skull from Utah’s Wahweap Formation. No complete body was found, but the preserved pieces distinguish it from other horned dinosaurs in the region.
Neck frills changed shape many times as ceratopsids evolved. Comparing these ornaments helps identify species and relationships, but does not prove that every horn was necessarily used as a weapon in fights.
