Beyond the game
The real Centrosaurus
Its remains are characteristic of the Dinosaur Park Formation of Canada. The currently recognized species is Centrosaurus apertus, from the end of the Cretaceous.
The shape of its neck frill distinguishes it from other horned dinosaurs. Members of the same group could have strikingly different heads while sharing the same basic structure.
This family includes large dinosaurs with beaks, frills, and horns or bony bumps. These structures help distinguish lineages, but their shape alone cannot establish each species’ behavior.
