Beyond the game
The real Gryposaurus
It was a duck-billed dinosaur with known species in different North American formations. Its name refers to the hooked shape of the snout.
Some skin impressions show pyramid-shaped scales along the back. These traces reveal details of its covering that the skeleton alone could never tell us.
Hadrosaurids had dental batteries for processing vegetation. Some had hollow crests and others lacked them: “duck-billed” does not mean they were ducks or that they all ate the same foods.
