Corythosaurus

Hollow spaces inside its crest may have made its calls louder, much like a wind instrument.

Corythosaurus had a helmet-shaped crest with internal chambers that may have helped it make sounds.

Beyond the game

The real Corythosaurus

Its high crest was reminiscent of a helmet and gave the skull a very recognizable silhouette. There are almost complete skeletons that even preserve impressions of polygonal scales.

The chambers inside its crest may have amplified sounds, rather like a wind instrument. That is an interpretation of its anatomy. Scale impressions provide a different kind of evidence: a direct trace of the covering on part of its skin.

Hadrosaurids had dental batteries for processing vegetation. Some had hollow crests and others lacked them: “duck-billed” does not mean they were ducks or that they all ate the same foods.
