Beyond the game
The real Edmontosaurus
It was one of the last non-avian dinosaurs and shared the landscape with Tyrannosaurus. Some of its species were among the largest duck-billed dinosaurs, with specimens measuring more than twelve meters.
Some specimens preserve extensive impressions of skin and possible remains of intestinal contents. These specimens are valuable because the tissues and body contents are often lost. The expression "possible remains" matters: identification also requires verification.
Hadrosaurids had dental batteries for processing vegetation. Some had hollow crests and others lacked them: “duck-billed” does not mean they were ducks or that they all ate the same foods.
