Beyond the game

The real Dreadnoughtus

It was identified from two partial skeletons from Santa Cruz, Argentina. Its material is relatively complete for a giant titanosaur, and the reference specimen had not yet finished growing.

It was described in 2014 from fossils found in Santa Cruz, Argentina. Preserving a relatively large portion of the skeleton helps to study its proportions. Even so, reconstructing the final size of a young individual requires distinguishing what is observed from what is estimated.

Titanosaurs were long-necked sauropods. The group includes giants and relatively small species; membership of the group does not automatically determine body size.
