Rinchenia’s tall crest was one of its most striking features. It had a beak and the relatively light body of an oviraptorid. Feathers are included in reconstructions because of its relatives, while its skull shape distinguishes it from other members of the group.
Three stages. One companion.

Beyond the game
The real Rinchenia
Rinchenia lived during the Late Cretaceous. Its exact diet remains unresolved and is investigated through its bones and relatives.
Its remains come from Mongolia’s Nemegt Formation. It was first considered a species of Oviraptor, but anatomical differences led to recognition of a separate genus.
The family name does not prove that these animals lived by stealing eggs. Diet must be investigated through the mouth, the surrounding evidence and other clues; Rinchenia’s exact diet is not presented here as fully settled.
