Beyond the game
The real Quetzalcoatlus
The first specimen consisted of wing fragments found in Texas in 1971. Other remains allowed us to recognize a second species and expand the known anatomy of this azhdarchid pterosaur.
It had a very long neck and a toothless beak. Later discoveries revealed more of its anatomy and allowed another species to be distinguished, gradually filling out the reconstruction.
Azhdarchids were long-necked pterosaurs. Their wings were supported by a greatly elongated finger, rather than being built like birds’ wings.
