Beyond the game
The real Hatzegopteryx
It was one of the largest pterosaurs, with estimates of ten to twelve meters in wingspan. The remains indicate an especially wide skull among giant azhdarchids.
Its neck was shorter and more robust than that of other giant pterosaurs of the same group. Not all huge flying reptiles had the same proportions. Comparing the neck and head allows it to be distinguished from other azhdarchids that may appear similar from a distance.
Azhdarchids were long-necked pterosaurs. Their wings were supported by a greatly elongated finger, rather than being built like birds’ wings.
