Pentaceratops

Numerous skulls and skeletons are known, so its anatomy is relatively well documented.

Pentaceratops is known from enough skulls and skeletons to compare numerous details of its body.

Beyond the game

The real Pentaceratops

It was a herbivorous ceratopsian known from about a dozen skulls and skeletons. Its first fossils were found in 1921 and it was formally described two years later.

Numerous skulls and skeletons make its anatomy relatively well documented. Together they offer more information than one spectacular fossil: researchers can compare reconstructions and see which features occur repeatedly.

This family includes large dinosaurs with beaks, frills, and horns or bony bumps. These structures help distinguish lineages, but their shape alone cannot establish each species’ behavior.
