Beyond the game

The real Daspletosaurus

Several species have been named from fossils from Alberta and Montana. The possibility that some represent successive evolutionary changes remains a question of research.

Its jaws were equipped with dozens of large, sharp teeth. The idea of an evolutionary succession between some of them continues to be studied. Finding similarities and different ages is important, but it is not enough on its own to demonstrate a direct chain.

Tyrannosaurids were large theropods with robust skulls. The family contains several distinct genera: not every large meat-eating dinosaur was a tyrannosaur.
