Beyond the game

The real Camptosaurus

It was a plant-feeding ornithischian with a snout ending in a beak. Its name means "flexible lizard", within the varied history of dinosaur names from the 19th century.

The name "flexible lizard" belongs to its scientific history, not a measure of how much it could bend. To study movement, joints and proportions of the skeleton are compared.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
