Beyond the game

The real Alioramus

Two species are recognized from fossils of different completeness. The specimen of A. altai greatly expanded what was known from the partial skull of A. remotus.

The specimens of its two species do not retain the same amount of information. A more complete one can greatly expand the interpretation of another known mainly from a partial skull.

Tyrannosaurids were large theropods with robust skulls. The family contains several distinct genera: not every large meat-eating dinosaur was a tyrannosaur.
