Beyond the game

The real Torvosaurus

It was one of the large carnivores in its environment, with species measuring about nine meters. Species are recognized in North America and Portugal, in addition to German material still without a specific name.

Its fossils are confirmed in both the United States and Portugal. Distinguishing species and materials that do not yet have a specific name avoids treating all these fossils as if they were identical. Each set preserves different information about the diversity of these large carnivores.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
