Beyond the game

The real Sinraptor

It belonged to the metriacanthosaurids, one of the families of large Jurassic theropods. It is among the best-documented members of that family.

One of its skulls preserves scratches and perforations interpreted as signs of bites. The injuries open a question about what happened to the animal, but do not alone identify the entire scene. Scrapes and punctures are studied as material evidence.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
