Beyond the game

The real Segnosaurus

The specimens preserve jaws, vertebrae, the pelvis and limb bones. In 1979, this material helped scientists recognize another member of Mongolia’s therizinosaurid family.

Its anatomy is related to browsing: long neck and arms, beak and great digestive capacity. This way of feeding on leaves and shoots is called browsing. The preserved jaws, pelvis and limbs allow us to study how these characteristics fit together.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
