Mammal

Repenomamus

Repenomamus demonstrates that Cretaceous mammals could also feed on small dinosaurs.

Beyond the game

The real Repenomamus

Its species ranged from roughly opossum-sized to badger-sized. Fossils show that it ate vertebrates, including dinosaurs, although the evidence cannot always distinguish hunting from scavenging.

One specimen preserves the remains of a young Psittacosaurus in its stomach, direct evidence of a meal. The find alone cannot show whether the mammal hunted the dinosaur or scavenged its body.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
