Beyond the game

The real Pulmonoscorpius

Pulmonoscorpius kirktonensis was a large fossil scorpion with a segmented tail and prominent eyes. Its broad pincers and arachnid limbs give it a very different body plan from an insect.

The preserved skeleton records a scorpion with conspicuous eyes and a substantial body. As in other arachnids, the walking limbs and pincers performed different roles.
