Beyond the game

The real Pterodaustro

It was a South American pterosaur belonging to the ctenochasmatids. Its remains date to the Early Cretaceous.

Its numerous long, slender teeth acted as a filter for small aquatic organisms. This was a very different way to feed from seizing large prey with powerful jaws. Tiny organisms could sustain a specialized flying reptile.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
