Beyond the game

The real Mapusaurus

It is known from an accumulation of bones from several individuals excavated between 1997 and 2001. This set made it possible to describe the genus in 2006 and compare animals of different sizes.

The largest specimens have been estimated at more than twelve meters long. This collection lets researchers compare sizes and parts of the skeleton. Finding several animals together does not, by itself, show how they interacted in life or prove a particular hunting strategy.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
