Beyond the game
The real Cryolophosaurus
It was one of the largest theropods of the Early Jurassic. Its Antarctic discovery in 1991 made it possible to name the continent's first non-avian dinosaur.
Its brain retained features more ancestral than those of other theropods. Finding it there sheds light on a region less often featured in dinosaur stories. Its remains also help scientists compare the anatomy of early theropods.
This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
