Beyond the game

The real Anchisaurus

It was an early sauropodomorph known from reddish sandstones of the northeastern United States. Its classification has changed with the revision of the ancient dinosaurs called "prosauropods."

Its hands had large thumbs that may have helped with feeding. Its classification has changed as researchers reassessed the relationships of early long-necked dinosaurs. Scientific categories are adjusted to reflect what bone comparisons reveal.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
