Beyond the game

The real Amebelodon

It was a North American proboscidean from the group of amebelodontids. Several species formerly attributed to it have been moved to Konobelodon, so historical reconstructions do not always represent the same genus.

Several species previously included in the genus were transferred to another. That is why it is advisable to check which fossil represents an older reconstruction before attributing all its characteristics to it.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
