Beyond the game

The real Ambopteryx

Ambopteryx longibrachium combined feathers with evidence of a membranous wing. A specialized wrist bone helped support this unusual surface.

Its fossils show that this unusual membrane-supported wing pattern was not unique to Yi. The two named species preserve distinct examples of an unexpected kind of dinosaur wing.
