Beyond the game
The real Sauropelta
It is one of the nodosaurids whose anatomy is best known. The remains indicate a medium-sized animal, approximately five to six meters long.
That ratio helps interpret size comparisons: a long animal does not necessarily have an equally long trunk. Its remains allow us to study the construction of a nodosaurid well.
Ankylosaurs developed bony armor in their skin. Some lineages had a tail club and others did not; a club should not be added to every armored dinosaur.
