Beyond the game
The real Maip
The remains come from the Chorrillo Formation in Santa Cruz, southern Argentina. Separate bones from different parts of the body survived, enough to identify a new genus.
Maip lived near the end of the Cretaceous and shows that large predators were not the same on every continent. Patagonia retained lineages different from the tyrannosaurids often associated with that time in North America.
