Liaoceratops

It was much smaller than its horned relatives that lived later.

Liaoceratops helps us picture dinosaurs with neck frills before the giant, big-horned forms appeared.

Beyond the game

The real Liaoceratops

It was much smaller than the later ceratopsids with their great horns. Its anatomy offers a view of an early stage in the evolution of dinosaurs with neck frills.

Its small size does not make it merely the young of a later ceratopsid. It represents a distinct form from an early chapter in the group’s history.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
