Beyond the game

The real Ledumahadi

Ledumahadi was a very large sauropodomorph with robust limbs. Its body shows that becoming large and moving on four limbs did not require every feature of a later column-legged sauropod.

Its forelimbs retained a construction different from the column-like supports of later sauropods. The skeleton helps separate the evolution of large size from the evolution of a particular limb posture.
