Beyond the game

The real Incisivosaurus

Its dental anatomy suggests a plant-based or omnivorous diet, unusual among popular images of theropods. It was described in 2002 from a skull from the Yixian Formation.

Its large, flattened front teeth were unusual among oviraptorosaurs. They suggest a diet unlike that of the movie-style hunting theropod. Plant-based or omnivorous feeding are possibilities supported by the teeth, rather than a settled menu.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
