Beyond the game

The real Datousaurus

It shared its landscape with other sauropods and the stegosaur Huayangosaurus. Its name combines a reference to a “chief” with a play on words about its large head.

The description of the animal is supported by two partial skeletons. The comparison with other sauropods and with Huayangosaurus allows it to be placed in a group of animals. The name also has a particular reference to its large head.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
