Beyond the game

The real Archaeopteryx

It lived in a Europe made up of islands surrounded by tropical seas. Its fossils were fundamental to study the transition between other dinosaurs and birds.

That combination made it an important piece for studying the kinship of birds. Evolution can preserve old traits along with new ones within the same animal.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
