Beyond the game

The real Alvarezsaurus

It was very small, about one meter and about three kilos. José Bonaparte described it in 1991 from remains of the Bajo de la Carpa Formation.

Its name honors the Argentine doctor and historian Gregorio Álvarez. Scientific names do not always describe claws, teeth or size; some also preserve a human story.

This grouping describes evolutionary relationships. Its members share ancestors; they do not form a chain in which one must turn into another.
